Because a young Minneapolis Jewish father wants to comply with usages of the ancient tradition known as “Pidyan-Ha-Ben” (redemption of a first-born male child), an appead has been sent to President Roosevelt to modify hsi order on gold coins in order to take care of the contingency.
“Under the executive order”, the letter said, “it is now impossible to obtain or to have in possession, without violating the law, the gold coin” necessary for the rite. The President was asked to make a special exception for this rite in his gold ruling. The child involved in the prospective ceremony was born two weeks ago.
