Rep. James Roosevelt, California Democrat, said today in a House speech that the United States should seek resettlement of the Arab refugees “in the Arab lands where there is room and opportunity for them.” He declared that the best way to achieve this aim would be through establishment of an international committee by the United Nations to supervise the gradual transfer to Arab governments of the present activities of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. Rep. Roosevelt said the proposed committee would simultaneously develop an overall program for the economic development of the Middle East, harnessed to the resettlement of the refugees.
