Declaring that the democratic way of life will continue “so long as we maintain a broad and tolerant outlook, a strong national unity and strive to understand and solve the problems confronting us both individually and as a nation,” President Franklin Delano Roosevelt sent greetings and best wishes to the 46th Annual National Encampment of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States, which opens here tomorrow. The message, addressed to National Commander Fred S. Harris, expressed the hope that the Encampment be a successful and a happy one.
“Although I cannot be with you at your 46th Annual National Convention, meeting in Buffalo, New York, I extend to you my most sincere and cordial greetings,” President Roosevelt’s message said.
“With much of the world given over to conflict and strife, it is comforting to know that here in America our citizens may assemble in peaceful meeting, expressing their several viewpoints and beliefs. So long as we maintain a broad and tolerant outlook, a strong national unity and strive to understand and solve the problems confronting us both individually and as a nation, this freedom of meeting and discussion and the democratic way of life will continue. I hope your 46th Convention will be a most successful and happy one. My good wishes to you all.”
