Appreciation of the philanthropic and communal work of the late Samuel Deutsch, former president of the Jewish Charities of Chicago, was voiced by Julius Rosenwald today.
“Samuel Deutsch was not only a genial and lovable character, but he was a leader in Chicago philanthropy,” Mr. Rosenwald said. “He led the community in its thoughts on charity problems, but even more by his devotion and close application to those problems and in his desire to solve them. In his latter years, as president of the Jewish Charities of Chicago, its cause was the very essence of his life. His self-sacrificing service and enthusiastic direction in philanthropic endeavors inspired the whole community, a community which loved him and will cherish his memory.”
