Dr. Fishel Rottenstreich, member of the Executive of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, died today at the age of 56. He was a deputy in the Polish Sejm before coming to Palestine several years ago and was director of the Bank for Cooperatives in Lwow. He was a member of the first Polish Senate.
Dr. Rottenstreich was an expert on economic problems. As a member of the World Zionist Executive, he described to the Zionist Congress in Zurich, Switzerland, last year the economic difficulties of Palestine’s Jews Resulting from an adverse trade balance. He had also sought establishment by the Zionist Executive of a special economic organization to deal with labor troubles and guide Jewish trade.
Before coming to Palestine, Dr. Rottenstreich was considered one of the best-informed men on financial and economic problems in Poland. He served on the senate budget Commission in 1922, and was author of many articles on economic problems. He was listed on the staffs of many Jewish newspapers.
