Only with the greatest of effort did the president of the Roumanian parliament prevent the Jewish Deputy M. Landau, from being beaten by enraged members of parliament who became excited when Landau attacked the government for its official participation in the anti-Semitic Students Congress at Crajova. Landau’s speech caused a great storm of indignation among the deputies, many of whom demanded his expulsion, while others tried to attack him with their fists.
It is only now revealed that during the Students Congress, the students devastated department stores and that only extraordinary efforts on the part of the gendarmerie and military forces prevented serious disturbances by the returning delegates at the station in Crajova. While these facts are published in the Roumanian press, the official Roumanian Telegraphic Agency denies the reports.
