Roumanian Government Continues Parleys with Jews on Election Alliance

Negotiations declared to have bright prospects between the Maniu government and the Jewish groups for an election alliance are being continued, states a communique issued by the Council of Ministers.

The negotiations are principially being carried on with the Zionist group. Complications have arisen in Old Roumania because of the decision of the Union of Roumanian Jews, a non-Zionist, conservative organization, to press for the submission of its own list of candidates. This makes it difficult for the government party to satisfy both the Zionists and the Union of Roumanian Jews, states the communique.

The guarantee for free elections given by the Manin government will be broadly taken advantage of by the anti-Semitic Cuzist party. Extensive measures for a nation-wide election campaign are being taken by the Cuzists who hope to be able to elect 15 candidates. At a meeting of the Cuza party leaders their candidates only to the lower house and none to the Senate.

The sum of 250,000 lei was paid out by the city government of Czernowitz to Jewish welfare institutions of that city. Deviating from previous policies, this time no discrimination was displayed against any institution because of its group or party afliliation.

CONFERENCE ON VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE FOR JEWISH YOUTH

Representatives of the principal Jewish educational and recreational organizations in New York will attend the conference on “The Jewish Youth in the Overcrowded Professions. How Can They Be Guided Better Vocationally?” which will open its sessions on Sunday morning, November 25th, at the Federation Building, New York City. The conference will be held in connection with the third anual convention of the Metropolitan League of Jewish Associations.

Stroock, President of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies and of the Metropolitan League; George Lion Cohen, President of the Stuyvesant Neighborhood House; Isidor J. Kresel, Dr. Mary H. S. Hayes, Director, Vocational Service for Juniors; R. C. Vladek, Manager of the “Jewish Daily Forward”; Benjamin Veit, Associate Superintendent of the Board of Education; Jack Nadel. Executive Director of the 92nd Street Y. M. H. A. Samuel Leff, Field Secretary of the Jewish Welfare Board and Meyer Bloomfield, Industrial Consultant, former Professor of Vocational Guidance of Boston University will participate in the conference discussions.

To provide a home for aged people of the Jewish faith is the aim of a Dallas, Texas, committee headed by George Scheppe, with Mrs. J. Lynn and Miss June Rose Karpel as active working members. THe committee hopes to raise $25,000.
