Tsurkanu, one of the rabid anti-Semitic agitators in Roumania, was wounded in an encounter with the police because of his anti-Semitic agitation.
Tsurkanu suddenly appeared in the market place of Skulenu, Bessarabia, where he began to distribute anti-Semitice literature to the peasants. When a policeman interferred with him, Tsurkanu abused him and attempted to beat him. Soldiers were summoned. When Tsurkanu attempted to escape, the soldiers fired at him. A bullet entered his abdomen.
