Two reasons were offered for the decision of the Roumanian Government not to approve the statutes of the Kishinev Kehillah which is being reorganized, since Bessarabia became a part of Roumania.
The first reason offered by the authorities was that legally constituted kehillahs do not exist in Bessarabia. The second reason was that the Kehillah statutes included in its scope social welfare work, emigration and other activities which are not exclusively religious.
The rejection of the statutes will hamper the reorganization work and has called forth many protests on the part of Jewish leaders.
After four performances given here by the Warsaw Art Theatre troupe, which has been touring Roumania, the troupe was compelled to leave the city by the Kishinev authorities.
