Jewish children attending Roumanian public schools cannot be exempt from writing on Saturday.
Minister of Education Angelescu rejected today the petition submitted to the government by Chief Rabbi Schorr and signed by 150,000 Roumanian Jews, asking for this exemption on the ground that to compel the children to write on their Sabbath is contrary to their religion. Angelescu declared that the observance of the Sabbath is not “a question of conscience but of form.”
