Negotiations between the Jewish State Party and the Union of Roumanian Jews for a concerted course to follow in the impending Roumanian elections, have failed, it became known today, and as a result, the Jewish State Party has decided to appear with an independent list of candidates in the parliamentary balloting.
The Union of Roumanian Jews has submitted to the present cabinet, headed by Dr. Ion G. Duca, leader of the Liberal Party, a series of demands for safeguarding the rights of the Jewish minority as a condition for the formation of a bloc with the Liberal Party.
The election will be one of the most critical in years for the Jews of Roumania since the anti-Semitic political organizations such as the followers of Professor Alexander Cuza, the Iron Guard and the group claiming affiliation with the German Nazis are at their strongest now and have an excellent chance for victory. Should they win, the position of the Jews in Roumania would be, at the best, no better than that of the Jews in Germany.
Premier Duca, in his brief term of office, has tried to stem the anti-Semitic strife which is creating much rioting and disorder, and has pledged his government to respect and protect Jewish rights.
