All Jewish parties and groups united to voice the protest of the Jewish community against the contemplated action of the government to change the religious law, which would have an adverse effect on the status of the Jewish communities in Roumania.
Chief Rabbi, Dr. Niemerower, member of the Senate; Eli Berkowitz, representing the Communities’ Federation; Dr. William Filderman and Horia Carp, representing the Union of Roumanian Jews; Attorney Benvenisti of the National Club; Dr. Rappaport, member of the Senate, representing the National Peasant Party; and the Jewish deputies Landau and Joseph Fischer, agreed on a joint resolution of protest against the proposed bill to change the religious law. The leaders of the Jewish community were not consulted by the Minister of Religions, who drafted the bill.
The leaders who signed the resolution of protest were received today by Prime Minister Maniu in the presence of the Minister of Religions. During the audience, Dr. Niemerower and Dr. Filderman declared that if the bill is enacted into law it will work great hardships on the Jewish communities.
