A memorial for the Jewish war heroes in the Roumanian army is being planned by the Union of Roumanian Jews.
A site for the memorial was chosen opposite the Main Synagogue of Bucharest.
A boom has been started by Democrats for Philip B. Perlman for Mayor of Baltimore in 1931.
Mr. Perlman’s work as City Solicitor in the administration of Howard W. Jackson, former Mayor, following a term by the former as Secretary of State of Maryland makes him an ideal candidate for the Mayoralty, his supporters urge.
The amount of $15,600 was raised for the new synagogue planned by the Beth Israel Congregation of Worcested, Mass., at a special meeting. Samuel Grace is president of the congregation. The required amount is estimated at about $75,000.
It is planned that the new building will house an assembly hall, smaller meeting rooms, class rooms for a Hebrew School and a large main synagogue room.
The first week of the campaign in Detroit for $100,000 for the Cleveland Jewish Orphan Home brought $62,000. Adolph Finsterwald, chairman of the drive, expressed confidence that the entire sum will be raised.
The drive was endorsed by Fred M. Butzel and David A. Brown, both of whom are members of the campaign committee. Dr. Charles A. Smith is secretary of the campaign committee. Adolph “Daddy” Freund, who has been a member of the board of directors of the Cleveland Orphan Home for 60 years, is the honorary chairman of the campaign.
