A request for an audience with the Roumanian Regency in connection with continuing attacks on Jews in various parts of the country will be made by the Union of Roumanian Jews it was announced today. Dr. William Filderman, president of the Union, sought an interview with Premier Maniu but the latter could not see him and Dr. Filderman submitted a memorandum to him pointing out that the Jewish population is disappointed that the government is not bringing to an end the anti-Semitic disturbances and the insults to the Jewish religion while the Jews have not even the right to protect themselves, those who did being arrested and the attackers going free.
The renewed anti-Semitic disturbances are said to be due to the permission given to reopen the sudents’ clubs. Hence the Jews are demanding not only satisfaction for the insult to their religion in Parliament by Professor Alexander Cuza but also the closing of the clubs, and the release of the Jews who have been arrested.
The Social-Democratic member of Parliament, M. Redechinau, today asked Premier Maniu in Parliament when he intends to end “such a disgraceful state of affairs as by-passers being unable to walk in the main streets of Bucharest with elementary safety.” Public opinion here feels that the authorities are just as much to blame for the troubles as the attackers.
