An admission that Jewish candidates for entry in the Roumanian high schools in Czernowitz were not fairly treated on the examinations was made by the Roumanian Minister of Education, Petrovici.
When interviewed on the question of the twenty Jewish pupils who were arrested recently in Czernowitz, he stated that the troubles in Czernowitz were caused by the undue severity of the examiners who obviously framed the questions with the purpose of making the students’ failure inevitable. “However, it is impossible now to order new examinations,” the Minister stated. “It is necessary that authority be supported. In the future, however, to avoid repetitions of such incidents, the government will prepare a syllabus converning the examiners’ questions,” he stated.
