The Government roundup of aliens, including many who had previously been classed as friendly, is continuing on a wide scale. According to the Daily Express, Home Secretary Sir John Anderson has ordered internment of 23,000 Austrians and Germans in category C, against whom there had been no special restrictions.
More than 200 in this category were arrested in the London area yesterday, while hundreds of others were seized in provincial centers. Among those detained were 37 students at the retraining school maintained at Leeds by the ORT. More than 100 aliens were seized in raids in Glasgow yesterday.
