Royal honors were accorded Lord Melchett yesterday upon his arrival in Bulgaria, in connection with his tour in the interests of the World Maccabi Union of which he is the honorary president.
King Boris sent a special royal train to Rustchuk to bring Lord Melchett and Dr. Lelewer, president of the Maccabi Union, who accompanied him, to Sofia.
Upon his arrival in Sofia, Lord Melchett was received by King Boris in special audience. This was followed by a reception attended by representatives of the various ministries as well as a large throng of Jews.
The occasion was not devoid, however, of a disturbing element. Prior to the arrival of Lord Melchett, anti-Semites smashed the windows of the Maccabi Sports Hall, where the reception was to be held and destroyed the decorations.
