The Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned that the honor conferred upon Mr. Felix M. Warburg was the result of his activities as Chairman of the Siberian Repatriation War Fund. This fund was founded on April 6th, 1920 by a number of Relief organizations in New York, the purpose of which was to
repatriate the great number of war prisoners who were abandoned in Siberia after the collapse of the Russian Imperial Army and were unable to go back to their homes. Fifteen organizations participated in the creation of the fund. The largest contribution, however, came from the American Red Cross and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. The sum of $250,000 was contributed by the latter for that purpose. Eight hundred war prisoners were returned from Siberia to their native land through the efforts of the repatriation fund.
A very interesting correspondence took place btween the Hungarian government and the American Joint Distribution Committee in connection with this activity. The conferring of the Red Cross Decoration upon Mr. Warburg is a result of it.
