The Belgian Government has granted members of a Jewish theatre group from the Bergen-Belsen DP camp who have been touring the counter permission to remain here, Minister of Justice Paul Strys announced in Parlia(##) today amidst cheers and applause from the deputies.
The announcement was made following an appeal by Socialist deputy Isabelle (##) who urged that permits for residence be granted to “these people who are about (##)turn to Belsen after enjoying for a few days the amenities of civilized living (##) some of them have missed for a decade.”
The members of the troupe sent Mme. Blume a letter of thanks in which they (##)red that their reception in Belgium, the first free country they have visited (##)ars, gave them confidence in a better future. The letter added that they hoped (##) stay in Belgium would be the first stage toward their eventual destination–(##)tine.
