Private reports received here indicate that the Rumanian Government may soon agree to permit a larger volume of Jewish emigration from that country to Israel.
The reports assert that applications for passports and exit visas made by prospective Jewish emigrants were now being handled more speedily by the Rumanian Ministry of the Interior following the assignment of Soviet experts to the Rumanian Ministry.
Jewish technicians, now barred from emigration, may be permitted to leave the country under the reported new policy change, it was said, but doctors and technicians holding State posts would still be denied exit permits. The reports indicated that present conditions appeared favorable for negotiations for the release and emigration of several hundred Zionist leaders under arrest for Zionist activities.
A similar relaxation in emigration policy might be expected in Hungary, it was predicted.
