Although the Government has not yet completed its new code of anti-Semitic legislation various restrictions on the life of the Jewish population continue to be published at frequent intervals.
The latest anti-Semitic measure was a decree today by the Ministry of the Interior forbidding Jewish shopkeepers to close their stores on Saturday. From now on orthodox Jews will be unable to observe the Sabbath except by returning to the old practice of employing Christians to operate their stores for them on Saturday.
Another recent restriction is the prohibition of the kosher slaughtering of meat on the grounds that Jewish butchery is “unsanitary.”
Meanwhile, the removal of Jews from public offices and professions continues. Today it was officially announced that 175 Jewish doctors have been discharged from State medical services. Commenting on the removal of Jewish doctors, the Bucharester Tageblatt, official organ of the German minority, pointed out that many German doctors have been appointed to positions previously held by Jews.
