Jews in Rumania henceforth will be forbidden to adopt the Christian religion, Education Minister Demeter Caracostea announced today in a radio broadcast.
The minister also stated that the State subsidy for the Jewish community amounting to 1,000,000 lei per year had been cancelled. The Education Ministry is at present drawing up a list of Jewish teachers and professors who will be discharged from their posts.
In a second interview within the week, Interior Minister David Popescu informed Dr. William Filderman, president of the Union of Rumanian Jews, that he was trying to suppress agitation leading to disturbance of the peace. He asked that the Jews remain calm.
