The Rumanian government today decided to permit the transfer to Palestine of funds collected in Rumania among the Jews for work in up-building the Holy Land.
This decision was adopted after representations made by Zionist leaders to lift the existing restrictions on taking money to foreign countries.
The first 5,000,000 lei (over $50,000) will be transferred to Palestine in five monthly instalments, it was announced.
The money will be transferred through the Rumanian National Bank. The authorities expect that this step will lead to improved commercial relations between this country and Palestine and to an increase in the export of Rumanian goods to the Holy Land.
The largest item of export from Rumania to Palestine today is timber, which is used in Palestine for packing boxes for oranges.
