RESTRICTION ON EMPLOYMENT POSSIBILITIES FOR MEMBERS OF NATIONAL MINORITIES WERE FEARED TODAY AS THE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED IT WAS DRAFTING A BILL TO MODIFY THE LAW FOR THE PROTECTION OF WORKERS “WITH A VIEW TO MAKING ITS OPERATION MORE EFFICIENT.”

VALERIUS POP, MINISTER OF INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE, INTENDS TO INTRODUCE AN “ETHNIC PRINCIPLE,” MAKING POSSIBLE THE EMPLOYMENT OF MEMBERS OF MINORITIES ONLY ACCORDING TO THEIR RATION TO THE TOTAL POPULATION OF RUMANIA, IT WAS STATED.

THE PRESENT LAW, AIMED AT FOREIGN NATIONALS, MAKES NO DISCRIMINATION AMONG RUMANIAN CITIZENS.

THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT SAID 443 RUMANIAN FIRMS HAD BEEN FINED A TOTAL OF 35,000,000 LEI FOR VIOLATION OF THE PRESENT LAW.
