Bucharest newspapers arriving here today carry a report stating that the Rumanian Government has decided to issue regular food cards to foreign Jews who are in possession of permits to reside in Rumania, as well as to disabled Jewish war veterans and to widows of Jews who received decorations for bravery in the last war. Up to now these categories of Jews have received food cards stamped with the word “Jew,” which allowed them less food than the rest of the population.
The new ruling will not apply to Jewish war orphans, the report says. It reveals at the same time that Jews suspected of securing food illegally will be sent, together with their families, to “fixed residences.”
