The Rumanian Ambassador to London has intervened with the British government regarding the question of increasing Jewish immigration to Palestine, it was learned here yesterday.
In its reply to the Rumanian envoy, the British government said Palestinian immigration is regulated in accordance with the absorptive capacity of the country and depends entirely upon the judgment of the High Commissioner.
The British government, the reply continued, cannot undertake to influence the High Commissioner to grant special privileges to any people.
The Jews here are disappointed at the British answer but express satisfaction that the Rumanian government has taken this official step on their behalf.
Word of the Rumanian intervention at London was contained in a letter from the Rumanian Foreign Minister relative to the petition of the Zionist Revisionists to the Mandates Commission of the League of Nations.
