In a second about-face in less than a week, Rumanian authorities today agreed to grant visas to the six members of an Israeli ping pong team to attend an international table tennis tourney in Bucharest. However, the latest decision came too late to permit the Israelis’ arrival in the Rumanian capital in time to compete.
The Israeli Sports Federation had cabled protest to the headquarters of the World Table Tennis Federation condemning the Rumanian action and demanding that the contest be transferred to another country. The visas had been granted to the four Israeli men and two women and were revoked just before the team was to embark for Rumania this week.
