Open warfare broke out today between the Iron Guard and the National Christians, rival anti-Semitic groups, resulting in the death of a National Christian leader. Marin Costache, leader of the National Christian Party for the Buzau department, was fatally stabbed by Hon. Bogan, an Iron Guardist.

The dissension within the National Christian Party, which is headed by Prof. Alexander Cuza, resulted in the postponement of a demonstration of 200,000 persons from all over the country from Oct. 26 to Nov. 1.

Jewish circles expressed relief at the postponement, for King Carol, whose presence it is hoped will keep the demonstration in check, will be absent from Rumania on Nov. 26 but is scheduled to be back before Nov. 1.

King Carol today sent a message of thanks to the Central Jewish Council of Rumania for birthday greetings.

Young peasants of Sinaia, King Carol’s seat in the Transylvanian Alps, have formed a volunteer bodyguard to protect leaders of the National Peasants Party who have been marked for death by Rumanian Nazis. The peasant youths announced they intend to “preserve the rights of citizens.”
