Rumanian Court Sentences Two Gendarmes to Long Prison Terms for Murder of 150 Jews

Two former non-commissioned officers in the Rumanian military police were today sentenced to 18 and 20-year prison terms, respectively, for the murder of 150 Jews in 1941. Two civilians who helped them rob the bodies of of their victims received 15-year sentences. In addition all the property of the four convicted men was ordered confiscated.

During the trial before a Bucharest court it was established that the gendarmes, Dimitru Doaga and Leon Grumeza, had murdered the Jews in order to steal their personal possessions. They had been ordered to escort the Jews from the village of Siscautzi across the Polish border.
