The annual meeting of Rumanian Railway Engineers Association voted today to expel all Jewish members except war veterans. M. Segeceanu, president of the Association, said the action was taken in support of the Government’s policy of preserving a preponderance of Rumanians in trade and industry. He added that the management of the railways had already dismissed Jewish engineers from responsible posts and no Jews would be appointed to such posts in the future.
Meanwhile, Minister of Interior Georges Armand-Calinescu Agreed to permit opening of four Jewish farm schools after intervention by Chief Rabbi Jakob Niemirower regarding the prohibition of Hechalutz, Zionist training farm.
The orthodox Jewish population is greatly disturbed over a decision by the Agriculture Ministry’s veterinary council to prohibit kosher slaughter. The ban was temporarily deferred following an interview granted by the Minister of Agriculture to a delegation of rabbis and Jewish butchers. In a conference with the Minister of Interior, Chief Rabbi Jakob Niemirower later was assured that the question would receive further consideration and that, in the meantime, no general measure implementing the council’s decision would be introduced.
It was revealed that 80 per cent of the decisions on revision of Jewish citizenships have already been submitted to the Ministry of justice. The remainder will be submitted in the next few days, with publication of the final results expected next week.
