General Tshepleanu, who deported thousands of Rumanian Jews to Transnistria and who was responsible for their persecution there, committed suicide here today. He had been included on the list of war criminals.
As former inspector of forced labor detachments, Tshepleam supervised the arrest and deportation of more than 75,000 Jews, the majority of whom died from overwork, hunger and privation in Transnistria, which was the name given by the Antonescu Government to the Rumanian-held section of the Soviet Union.
