WARNING AGAINST PROPOSED LEAGUE OF NATIONS INTERVENTION IN RUMANIAN INTERNAL AFFAIRS, AS REGARDS PROTECTION OF MINORITIES, WAS SOUNDED TODAY DURING AN ELECTION SPEECH AT CLUJ BY VALERIUS POP, MINISTER OF INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE.
DISCUSSING HIS PLANS FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE LABOR INTERESTS OF “PURE-BLOODED RUMANIANS” AT THE EXPENSE OF MINORITIES, M. POP DECLARED:
“I SHALL CONTINUE THIS POLICY. NOBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO INTERFERE, NOT EVEN THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS, WHICH IS SO MUCH LOVED BY CERTAIN PEOPLE.”
THE MINISTER’S REFERENCE TO THE LEAGUE IS BELIEVED PROMPTED BY THE RECENT PROTEST TO GENEVA BY REPRESENTATIVES OF THE HUNGARIAN POPULATION, WHICH COMPLAINED THAT M. POP’S MEASURES AGAINST MINORITIES CONSTITUTED VIOLATION OF THE TRIANON PEACE TREATY.
