Premier Petre Groza today asked the Jewish Telegraphic Agency to deny a news story circulated by Reuters in which Groza is alleged to have declared that the only chance of ending anti-Semitism in Rumania was for “rich Jews in America” to contribute $100,000,000 to feed starving non-Jewish Rumanians in the famine areas of the country.
Groza termed the report an “evident forgery” and asserted that the stenographic record of the conversation between him and Hubert Harrison, the Reuters reporter, did not agree with the story sent out by the news agency on Feb. 9 of this year. “I hope the Jewish people will not fall for that provocation,” the Premier said in a statement to a JTA correspondent.
