Rumors are current here today that Shmuel Wulfin, Vilna Jewish student sentenced to two years imprisonment on charges of having participated in the events leading to the death of a Christian student killed in the anti-Semitic riots last November, will have his sentence commuted and reecive a minor penalty.
An appeal against the Wulfin verdict, scheduled to be heard on August 26th has been postponed until September 1st.
It is pointed out in this connection that the date of the new hearing coincides with the entry into force of a new penal code under which the maximum sentence for Wulfin’s offense is six months imprisonment.
