The World Jewish Congress today announced that plans are now being made to evacuate a number of Polish Jews who are now in the U.S.S.R. to Iran, whence they will emigrate to various countries.
In the selection of candidates for evacuation from the U.S.S.R., preference will be given to the immediate families of Jews who are still in the Polish military forces or who died during this war while in Polish service, and relatives of Polish Jews who are serving in any of the other Allied armies. A limited number of persons who have no relatives in the Polish or other Allied armies may also be evacuated, the announcement said.
Relatives of refugees known to be at present in the U.S.S.R., and who have written letters substantiating this received within the past six months, are urged to apply to the World Jewish Congress for the necessary applications for the inclusion of their relatives’ or friends’ names in the evacuation candidate-list.
