A Russian-built Sukohi-7 fighter-bomber, flown by an Egyptian pilot, was shot down by Israeli antiaircraft fire late yesterday afternoon at the former Egyptian airfield at Bir Gafgafa, in the Sinai Peninsula, about 50 miles from the Suez Canal, the Israel army spokesman announced here. The Egyptian pilot was found dead after his plane crashed. A second Russian plane, also flown by an Egyptian, escaped. The planes were believed to have been on a photographic reconnaissance mission.
