Leo Lange, noted European cantor, told how he was detained three weeks by Nazi forces in a hotel in Bremen on his journey to Chicago. Lange lives in Moscow and was invited to sing here at the Passover services in Congregation Knasses Israel.
Cantor Lange said that his luggage was confiscated and that he was kept a prisoner in his hotel room in Bremen when he tried to cross Germany on his way to America. His property was restored and he was permitted to resume his journey as soon as the American consul there at the behest of Congressman Adolph Sabath, intervened in his behalf with the Nazi agents.
Cantor Lange was met at the station by Aaron Friedman, president of the congregation; Ben Fishbein, vice-president, and Morris Hechman, chairman of the board.
