Dr. Lev Davidovic Landau, famous Russian-Jewish scientist, professor of theoretical physics at Moscow University, today was awarded the Max Planck Medal for 1960 at the annual congress of the Association of German Societies of Physicists here. In citing the Russian scientist, the award stated he was “one of the most outstanding theoreticians” in the world, and “has brought new methods” to the world of science.
Dr. Landau has accepted the award, it was announced at the Congress. Previous recipients of the annual Max Planck award have included the late Professor Albert Einstein and Nobel Prize Laureate Niels Bohr.
