The Russian Supreme Court confirmed the jail sentences imposed by the Crimean Court on the Chalutzim leaders of the colony, Tel Chai.
The Chalutzim leaders, Zirlin, Sosensky and Friedman, who were accused of anti-Communist activities and pro-Palestine propaganda were sentenced to jail terms of from two to four years.
I. D. BERKOWITZ, HEBREW WRITER, GOES TO PALESTINE
I. D. Berkowitz, well-known Hebrew writer and son-in-law of the late Sholom Aleichem, sailed on the Mauretania for Palestine.
Mr. Berkowitz, who is considered one of the leading stylists in modern Hebrew literature, has translated into Hebrew many of Sholom Aleichem’s works. He will spend some time in Palestine, where he will be connected with the “Dvir,” the publishing house headed by Chaim Nachman Bialik Prior to his departure a farewell banquet was given in his honor by the Histadruth Ivrith. Abe. Goldberg acted as toastmaster.
