The name of the town of Rachmistrivka, in the Ukraine, which has been destroyed by the Nazi armies, has been inscribed in the Jewish National Fund’s Golden Book. Rachmistrivka was the birthplace of famous rabbinical figures including Reb Yochenzi Twerski.
This is probably the first time that the name of a town, rather than a person, has been inscribed in the volume. The inscription was made possible through a donation by a prominent member of the Yishub who was born in Rachmistrivka and who preferred to remain anonymous.
