The High Commissioner, General Sir Arthur Wauchope, opened yesterday the Rutenberg Electric Station on the Jordan, in the presence of the Emir Abdullah of Transjordan, the British Resident of Transjordan, Mr. Rutenberg and many high officials.
The High Commissioner praised Mr. Rutenberg for going straight ahead in spite of all difficulties, and said that the Palestine towns and the Palestine agriculturists are benefiting by the electric power and lighting provided by the Rutenberg works. 600 workers, Jews and Arabs, have had continuous employment on the work for 4½ years, the High Commissioner said, going on to compare the Rutenberg Electric Works favourably with similar enterprises in Norway, Sweden and Australia.
