The action of the trustees committee of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J. in upholding the dismissal of Leinhard Bergel, German instructor, was assailed today by the New York Post in an editorial captioned, “A College Disgraces Itself.”

“The college has convicted itself of conducting a German department that aids in the spreading of Nazi propaganda,” The Post charged.

Citing the report of the Civil Liberties Union as proving that Bergel’s dismissal was motivated by his opposition to Hitlerism, the editorial regarded as disturbing “the typical Hitlerite unanimity in the German department against Mr. Bergel and the tender concern it evidenced for the progress of the Nazi movement abroad.

“What do the people of New Jersey intend to do about the case?” the Post asked in conclusion.
