Semah Cecil Hyman, new Israel Consul General, assumed his pot in New York today following his arrival this week to the United States. He succeeds Avraham Harman.
Mr. Hyman, 56, was born and educated in London. During the first World War, he joined the First Jewish Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, and served in Palestine, returning to London in 1920 to complete his studies. In 1922, he returned to Palestine to settle. He joined the staff of Barclays Bank. In 1950 he was named by the Government of Israel economic counselor at the Israel Embassy in Washington. In 1952 he was appointed Israel’s Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Union of South Africa, where he remained until his present appointment as Consul General of Israel in New York.
Mr. Hymans wife, Dr. Anne Foner-Hyman, served for many years as research assistant of Prof. Saul Adler professor of parasitology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
