Salomo Rosowsky, a prominent Jewish composer and musicologist, died here today at the age of 84. He was a lecturer in music of the Bible at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America since 1953.
Born in Riga, Latvia, Mr. Rosowsky attended the leading musical conservatories in Russia and was musical director of the Jewish Art Theatre in St. Petersburg and later director of the Jewish Conservatory of Music in Riga until 1925. A resident of Palestine for many years, Mr. Rosowsky was the recipient of the Municipality of Tel Aviv Award for music in 1946.
He came to the United States in 1947 and has lectured in various American universities including Yeshiva University, Columbia University and the University of Chicago. Among his compositions were The Treasure, The Crown of David, the Dream of the Golem, symphonic poems and chamber music.
