Sabotage Against Jewish List in Roumanian Elections Alleged

There is no Jewish list contesting the elections to Parliamens in the Bessarabian town of Baltsi, the “Adeverul” reports, because of sabotage by the Government authorities there. When the list was brought in for registration, the paper says, it was objected that the name of Chief Rabbi Zirelson of Kishineff; a former Senator, was not properly written. When the list was brought back corrected, The man. who brought it was detained by the authorities until the expiration of the time allowed for handing in lists, and then he was allowed to go.

Among the Jews standing as candidates for the Parliamentary elections are Dr. Joseph Berkovitz, of the Union of Roumanian Jews, on the Government list, M. Hoffmann, on the list of M. Stere’s Independent Peasants Party, and M. Wurmbrand, on the list of the Averescu Party.
