In a solemn ceremony attended by Religions Minister Nistor, military authorities, jurists and Jewish religious leaders, Dr. Alexander Safran, was yesterday invested as Chief Rabbi of Rumania. The ceremony was held in the Great Temple here.
Following speeches by Nistor and Dr. Wilhelm Filderman, leader of Rumanian Jewry Dr. Safran delivered an address expressing loyalty to the throne and promising to raise the spiritual level of the Jewish population. Among those present at the ceremony were president Alexandru Lapedatu of the Rumanian Academy and President D. Volanschi of the High Court.
