Sale of foodstuffs from Israel in the United States are expected to set a new high of $1,500,000 in 1960 at the wholesale level, as compared with the $1,000,000 registered in 1959, it was indicated here today by Nathan Raviv, Trade Commissioner for Israel in this country.
Originally seen in department stores, the Israel products have now taken shelf space in a number of the supermarket chains across the country, Mr. Raviv said. Products already appearing on grocers’ shelves throughout the nation include a full line of chocolates and candies, dehydrated soups, canned melons, grapefruit segments, figs, olives, pickled cucumbers, okra and marmalade.
Honey, matzohs and matzoh meal, peanuts, olive oil and cheese are other items from Israel that are being sold here in ever increasing quantities. Principle importers of Israel’s food products are: Tel Aviv Import Corp., New York, the Aviv import Co. and Israel Creations, Inc.
