Author of “Outlawry of War” Slogan Asks U. S. to Support Pact (Jewish Daily Bulletin)
Salmon O. Levinson, author of the slogan “the outlawry of war,” and chairman of the American Committee for the Outlawry of War, was among the leading Americans who, in messages to President Coolidge and to the State Department, urged speedy action by the United States Senate for the ratification of the Kellogg Treaty outlawing war as a national policy.
“Our committee believes that the peace pact should not be confused with the cruiser program,” Mr. Levinson said. “We agree that the naval strength of the United States has no relation to the peace pact, and that our defenses should be enlarged as recommended by the President. It is our opinion that if the United States does not promptly ratify the treaty it will seriously affect our influence in Europe but more especially in the United States.”
