Gov. Hugh L. Carey has proclaimed Sunday, May 11 as “Salute to Israel – Parade for Peace Day” in the State of New York. In signing the proclamation Carey stated: “The State of Israel has demonstrated by word and by deed its overwhelming desire for peace. Even in the midst of the gallant defense of their freedom and their unremitting quest for peace, the people of Israel have shared their vast spiritual and practical experiences with other young and growing nations. They have built a homeland in which peoples from the four corners of the earth–refugees from oppression and terror—are working together in a living exemplar of brotherhood.”
