Samuel Jacobs, Canadian M.p., Dead at 67; First Jew in House of Commons

Samuel William Jacobs, Member of Parliament since 1917 and the first Jew to sit in the Canadian House of Commons, died here last night at the age of 67. He had been ill a year. Mr. Jacobs, an attorney, figured in many cases before the courts affecting Jewish citizens. He was instrumental in removing discriminatory restraints in Quebec legislation and obtained amendments to the provincial Law giving Jews status in relation to the school law and the marriage license act. Mr. Jacobs was president of the Canadian Jewish Congress.
